Go to Meinong togerther~ play “STREAM”with “FUN”

Nearly 20 senior students from Kaohsiung St.Paul’s High School, led by the students of Institute of Social Innovation in National Sun Yat-sen University to embark on a field trip, inspired by the words of the late writer Sanmao to explore Meinong. The theme of the activity was “Exploring Meinong together~ Have FUNwithSTREAM,” which was a field investigation course, developed jointlyby the Institute of Social Innovation and the St.Paul’s High School teacher Shi Ye’s bilingual STREAM teaching group. Over the three-day course, students not only visited the Meinong Old Street and interviewed the elderly but also understood water pheasant restoration and visited Zhuzimen Hydro Plant. The course included thematic discussion, editorial thinking instruction and sharing session, where students shared their learning results upon returning to school.

This action-oriented teaching not only emphasizes on the recognition of local history and culture but also covered the sustainable issues about energy, urban development and regional revitalization. Students hold discussions during the thematic discussions and record the stories shared by the elderly, creating their learning outcomes portfolios. The school planned to hold a presentation event in the next semester, providing students with the opportunities to showcase their learning outcomes. The gains from this course include a deeper understanding of power generation principles, expansion of perspectives on sustainability issues, and the valuable experience from the local residents and the natural environment.
